Historic renovation brings new community healthcare facility.
This building is a respectful renovation, restoration, and re-use of the historic, former St. Cecilia Elementary School. The building was used as an elementary school until 1990 and from 1991-2005 as the site of a Head Start program for preschool-aged children. Hurricane Katrina crippled New Orleans and the Bywater neighborhood in 2005. The building was acquired by the Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans (DCSNO) in 2009 and repurposed as a community healthcare facility.
The new, state-of-the-art health center is approximately 22,000 square feet and includes 12 examination rooms, a special procedure room, medical and dental labs, 5 dental operatories, a pharmacy, business offices and classroom spaces for patient education and community activities.
