Slidell Memorial Hospital Phase 2 Renovation

Following the Phase 1 addition to the hospital, Phase 2 included this multi-phase renovation project focusing on the second floor surgical suite. The renovation transformed the former surgical center into a fully modernized endoscopy suite, including 18 pre/post-op bays, three procedure rooms, nurses’ stations, and support spaces. The most critical challenge involved rerouting all under-slab utilities while maintaining hospital operations below. Because active, lead-lined cath labs and functioning surgical rooms were directly beneath the work area, the team implemented a meticulously planned quadrant-based phasing strategy. Med gas, plumbing, and electrical systems were safely cut, capped, and rerouted one quadrant at a time, with infection control measures in place and continuous coordination with hospital staff.

Work occurred around the clock, often overnight and during holidays, to minimize disruption. Discovery of asbestos and lack of fireproofing further complicated the process, requiring phased abatement and additional fireproofing installations before renovations could proceed. Despite significant infrastructure and sequencing challenges, all work was completed ahead of schedule.
